Roadtrip away from Sydney with no Destination (Pt.2) - Gold Coast, Movie World

View from Sofitel Hotel,  Broadbeach, Gold Coast
Day 4 - We were about to cross the border to Queensland which we had never expected. The plan was to be back to Sydney on day 5, and going forward to Gold Coast would add up at least one more day. But hey, it's Gold Coast right in front of us - the Australian touristic hot spot overloaded with various theme parks, world-renowned beaches and year-round sunshine which wows over 10 million of visitors each year! Being so close to such a promising holiday destination, could we really just abandon that opportunity and simply alter our course?

Sofitel Hotel, Broadbeach, Gold Coast
I just say, seize the moment, babe. Who knows when we would have the chance again to go there together? Leaving Australia for good was just a matter of time to all of us, so we better cherish the great things right ahead of us. In that moment, it was us, being together, there.

When we arrived at Broadbeach in that little village, we were surrounded by huge hotel buildings, lovely cafes and restaurants which all created that relaxed, chill and laid-back holiday flair. People must be so happy living here, because it doesn't seem to be ever necessary nor appropriate to feel stress in that area.

Sofitel Hotel, Broadbeach, Gold Coast
Summer, sunshine, 25°C degrees, beaches, bikini, thongs, Christmas tree - Please find the mistake in that word list. Well, if you are Australian, all these things will fit together very well and nothing seems wrong. Not every man on this world gets to enjoy the typical snowy white Christmas (disputable if it's unfortunate or not), and even more people on this world can't get to experience a hot summer Christmas. As I belong to the latter group of people, I just had to grab the opportunity of posing next to a Christmas tree with a summer dress and thongs on.

Movie World Gold Coast

Oh weeeeee, next day was a play day! Time to pay Bugs Bunny a visit or say hi to Batman.

Errr... usually, when you just entered a theme park, you are so excited that you would immediately rush towards all those attractions. But it seems like someone found the biggest attraction in coffee, haha! To be honest, we were quite in lack of sleep since we always tried to get most of our days.

I felt bad for Bugs Bunny though. Imagine you were stuck in that thick cotton-ish, fleecy costume for the entire day in hot summer temperatures =/ I bet Bugs Bunny wouldn't be able to keep its constant smile for all these photos if it was not a freeze smile, haha!

I would have loved to grab some plush animals home while we were in the souvenir shop, but I already had my chunky hannari tofus which still required from me some good idea for fitting them into my flight baggage, so I had no further space for more plush animals. My mum keeps asking me why I still have so many plush animals at home, but being surrounded by those cute plushies make me feel warm and comfortable, the familiar feeling of home :)

Superman Escape Rollercoaster, Movie World Gold Coast
None of us had the guts to go onto the extremely adrenaline-kicking rollercoasters which rush down from somewhere high in the air in one twinkling of the eye. There were at least three of such crazy rollercoasters, but we really couldn't bring ourselves to queue for something we didn't really wanna challenge ourselves to do >__<.

My friend and me had fun playing around and posing around the scenarios there, haha!

Movie World is still "Movie" World which is why you will suddenly encounter many movie-like scenery on the walk. Indeed, we rather enjoyed seeing and watching the entertainment there instead of kicking our adrenaline levels from wild rollercoaster rides.

The car stunt show might be one of the biggest attractions to watch there. Awesome show with a lot of speedy action à la fast and furious, flying cars and fiery stunts which literally blow its hotness onto your face. Advice, be sure to not sit in the first row!

Scooby Doo Spooky Coaster
The Scoopy Doo Spooky Coaster was one of the few rides we took there. It's supposed to be terrifying ride with ghouls and gargoyles jumping out to get you and scaring the hell out of you. They had all these laser lightning, animations and sound effects for that, but considering that little children go for its rides as well, it would be too bad seeing them run out crying. Therefore, the scariness was more on an amusing level (for which we had to queue almost one hour though =O=).

Wild West Falls Adventure Ride, Movie World Gold Coast
Oh yes, we also went on the water ride! Basically, all tension was built up towards the final fall, and we got sooooooooooooo wet ><''
Although it's not a very big theme park (not as large as the Movie World I know from Germany), it's worth to pay a visit if you are around the area. If you don't like Movie World, there are still many other parks near by such as Sea Life, Wild Life, Dream World, Wet'n'Wild etc. In case you plan to make a theme park marathon, there are special bundle tickets that grant you entrance for ALL parks or several parks at the same time for a discounted price compared to paying for each theme park separately. Inform yourself before going, for example here. There are also many ticket selling places around Broadbeach or Surfers Paradise, so no need to rush buying. Sometimes you might even run into special deals there.

Next stop: BRISBANE.

Stay tuned :)

  1. Oh how lucky! This makes me really pine for a holiday :( I went here a few years ago and it was so much fun! Can't believe you didn't go on the rollercoasters though- the Superman one was the best, it goes from 0-100kph in just 2 seconds, what an adrenaline rush! I absolutely hated waiting for rides though, the longest I lined up for was for a bit over 1 hour! It is just insane but in the end it is worth it :) And what a beautiful view from your hotel room!

    1. yes, lining up was actually the main reason why we didn't go for the rollercoaster rides since we just had one day for Gold Coast. We wanted to go to Brisbane in the evening, so we had to rush a bit.

Yes, the view was superb!! we purposely booked the ocean view which was just 10 dollars more, so why not? hahaha.

i wish i could go again to spend more days at Gold Coast. I didn't even really get to enjoy Broadbeach, because we were simply too tired :(
